Cuisinart Stainless Steel Multifunctional Grill Review
Indoor electric grills can never be a replacement to an outdoor charcoal grill, but when the weather doesn’t allow for outdoor grilling, what else can be a better solution than having indoor grill to enjoy your barbeque anytime you want. Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddle is an indoor grill providing three jobs of grill, griddle and panini at the same time. We tested it for different foods and today sharing our testing results that will definitely help you to decide whether it is good option for you or not.
Temperature Control Knobs
We have three knobs here. That is the griddle on the left, selector, and grill panini on right side. If you are going for grill/panini or you want closed top cooking, move the selector on the right side and if you want to griddle or flat cooking, move it on left. Knob on the left side controls griddle’s temperature, whereas grill/panini’s temperature is controlled by the right knob. Temperature control knobs have indicator lights.
Design and Compact Shape
Cuisinart griddle is a compact griddle with a lot in a little space. It is really convenient and easy to use. It is a complete solution for the griddle. It will take a bit of counter space. But it looks good on the table counter.
It is coming with a grill, griddle and scrapper with it, but you may buy waffle plates with it.
This indoor grill is finished in brushed stainless steel coming with three-year of warranty.
Its handle is at reasonable distance from griddle so that it remains cool while cooking. The cover is a hinged floating cover. Lid hinge works the way they are supposed to do, but sometime we need to manually adjust them according to the food we are cooking.
The option of having two separate cooking surfaces works great if you are using different sauces on your food, in such case flavors won’t mingle up with each other.
According to my observation, one side is flat and perfect for french toast and fried eggs, while the other side of the grill has raised ridges that are excellent for the foods you need to allow the grease to run out of it, such as meat and burgers.
Grill and Griddle Plates
These grill and griddle plates allow fats and all grease to drain out from the food you are cooking into the integrated drip tray below. This nonstick grill and griddle offers even heat distribution to the food. You can use this grill in multiple ways.
- It can be used as a full grill by opening it completely. You may cook meat and grill vegetables on it.
- You can also use it as a full griddle by changing out the plates. Now it is completely ready to give you the perfect breakfast including eggs, bacon, hotcakes, sausages and pancakes.
You can also use it in the combo of half grill and half griddle. Now it is perfect to make burgers. You can grill the burger on one side and heat up your bun on the griddle side. Also in this way you get perfect paninis thin or thick as you love by simply closing its floating cover. Use it as a panini press or contact grill by using the hinge in two halves.
With 5 separate cooking options, you can cook a variety of foods from eggs to pancakes and grilled cheese to sausages to steaks, panini and hamburgers.
Drip Tray
The drip tray sits completely under the griddle and it catches all extra oil, liquid and grease from your food even if you are doing flat cooking or closed top, keeping the surface area neat and clean. It is big enough. But sometimes you may forget to clean it up as it is completely hidden, so you need to double-check it before storing it in the cabinet.
Affordable and Value for Money
It is the least expensive griddler with all these functions it is coming with. It is simple, easy to use and compact providing efficient results. It does a lot and do it very well. It is a good value indoor grill.
Easy Cleaning
All these detachable parts i.e. grill, griddle, drip tray, and the scrapper that comes with it are all dishwasher safe. It can also be washed easily in hands with hot soapy water.
Cuisinart Griddler vs. Cuisinart Griddler Elite
It would be big dishonesty if I don’t mention Griddle Elite here which is the improved model of Cuisinart Griddler with some appealing features besides all functions, the basic version had.
In order to improve the heating element of the grill, they have made a heating element inside the grill plates that makes heating super-efficient and can be controlled individually for each plate.
Another feature which I really liked is its ability to set the lid above food without getting in contact with food. This feature is not required in everyday cooking but it would provide amazing results if you are reheating pizza on it or making open-faced sandwiches.
But at the same time, if we compare, there is no big difference in these products. The griddle Elite is coming at a huge price as compared to the basic model. Don’t go for it until you badly need extra features of it.
Cuisinart Griddler Cooking Times
Many people want to know the exact cooking timing to get juicy flavored food. Well it depends on the type of food you are cooking, here we have mentioned some of the type of meat with their cooking timings.
Boneless Beef or Steaks:
- You won’t be able to put steaks with bone on griddle as it cannot accommodate on it. You can cook boneless beef or steaks without bone like rump or fillet.
- You need to preheat your grill for about 5 minutes until it reaches temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Which is also a default temperature. You will use same temperature even if you are cooking on flat grill or closed lid.
- Light will turn green when it reaches required temperature.
- Now put your steaks on pre heated grill plate.
- ¾ inch steak will take around 4 to 10 minutes of cooking. Cooking temperature depends on your required doneness level. Here I have mentioned temperatures for all doneness levels.
Boneless Chicken Breasts:
- Preheat Cruisinart Griddle to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to cook boneless chicken.
- Cook chicken breast for about 7 to 9 minutes.
- Don’t forget to check internal temperature of chicken that should be around 165 degrees Fahrenheit in order to ensure that chicken is completely cooked.
Boneless Chicken Thighs:
- Preheat your Cuisinart Griddler to 400-degree Fahrenheit.
- Cooking time for chicken thighs should be 8 to 10 minutes.
- Internal temperature of chicken should be 170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Cooking Fish Steaks:
- Preheat your Cuisinart Griddler to about 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- If lid is closed it will take 6 to 7 minutes.
- If grill is flat, it will take around 10 to 12 minutes in cooking.
Final Verdict
I really enjoyed using the Cuisinart grill. It provides a lot of versatility in cooking. If you are looking for a grill that provides all features like a grill, griddle, and panini press, then you should go for it. I really loved cooking sandwiches and paninis on it. For me, it is the best option as the food cooked is good, clean up is easy, sits nicely on the tabletop and its all-in-one feature makes me inclined to keep it.
